ANAL GLAND CLEAR 50ml

Anal Gland Clear helps alleviate and clear anal glands and also aids in clearing infection.  Your pet may be presenting with the following symptoms:

  • butt scooting

  • licking or biting at the anus

  • foul fishy smelling odour

  • restricted movement in hind legs

  • anal pain

Dogs have two small glands on either side of the anus.  These glands fill up with fluid then when your pet goes to the toilet, if the stool is the correct consistency the anus will expand which will express the anal glands.  Correct diet is very important for this correct stool consistency.

If you see your dog scooting their butt on the ground, licking or biting the anus, or sitting seems to be uncomfortable, he may have an anal gland problem.

When the anal glands don't express naturally during defecation, they become painful and produce a foul odour.  If the glands become blocked, it can become quite uncomfortable for your pet and you may notice your pet has restricted movement in the hind legs and may be slow to get up and walk or avoid walking altogether.  The glands can also become infected.

The main reason that diet plays such a big role in anal gland problems is that commercially processed foods and even some raw foods are too soft.  When the diet contains the right fibre it promotes a good push with wide expansion of the anus during defecation, which in turn helps to express the anal glands.
