The hip joint is composed of the ball and the socket.  Dysplasia occurs when part of the hip joint is abnormally developed, resulting in dislocation of the ball and socket.

Hip dysplasia is one of the most common skeletal diseases seen in dogs but is relatively rare in cats.  Gender does not seem to be a factor, but some breeds are more likely to have the genetic predisposition for hip dysplasia than other breeds.

​

Hip Dysplasia usually begins as a puppy, around the 4 month period.  It's not uncommon to receive a diagnosis in older pets due to arthritis, osteoarthritis or degeneration of the joint cartilage.

Signs and symptoms:

• Difficulty rising

• Pain in hip joints

• Unusual gait

• Reluctant to jump, climb stairs or run

• Intermittent or persistent hind-limb lameness, often worse after exercise

• Enlargement of shoulder muscles

• Limping

Dosage: Homeopathic remedies

10 drops on to fur in between shoulder blades, four times per day. 

​

For acute symptoms, dose every 30 - 60 minutes for the first 24 hours, then 5 - 10 times a day.  Can also place 10 drops in animals water bowl.
